Visionary Leadership


These are exciting times for organizations globally, there are great opportunities that abound as we look at our globalized world. These are also very challenging times filled with volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA).

Organizations require great leadership to address such challenges, we need leaders who have vision, understanding, clarity and agility to face off the VUCA that are bound in our world today. 

This certificate program will assist managers in their leadership development. It is comprised of five modules that are completed online and one in-class session.

Successful completion of this program will award participants with a certificate of completion from Ontario Tech University.

In this certificate you will need to complete the following five modules and in-class session:

  • Understanding VUCA and VUCA Prime – Dr. Rob Elkington (Canada)
  • Leadership Resilience in a VUCA World – Dr. Jennifer Moss Breen (USA)
  • Innovation in a VUCA World – Dr. Bettina von Stam (UK)
  • Change Management in a VUCA World – Dr. Noel Pearse (South Africa)
  • Strategic Systems Coaching for Leaders in VUCA – Madeleine van der Steege (Netherlands)
  • ALL DAY IN PERSON SESSION – Tying it all Together and Leading Well in VUCA – Dr. Rob Elkington

By the successful completion of this course the learner will:

  • Describe and discuss the meaning of the acronym VUCA and its implications for organizational leadership in the 21st century.
  • Effectively apply VUCA Prime as a positive countermeasure to the disorienting effect of VUCA.
  • Understand and apply leadership resilience strategies in the face of VUCA.
  • Discover and discuss processes and practices of innovation as a mechanism to address VUCA.
  • Identify and integrate best practices of change management to support organizational strength within VUCA.
  • Understand the importance of systems coaching for organizational health within VUCA and develop a systems coaching program.

Part One: Online Learning

Participants will begin the online learning prior to attending the in-class session.  During this time you will:
  1. Access to a rich multi-media library
  2. Actively participate in the threaded discussions
  3. Complete assigned reading to support the threaded learning and discussion.

Part Two: In-class Learning

The course culminates in a one-day workshop in which the participants reinforce the online learning through case studies and application. Participants have an opportunity to learn from our professional and will network with peers to learn, discuss, develop and practice new skills during this interactive learning environment. 

To obtain the University Certificate the participant must:

  • Actively participant in both online and in-class discussion
  • Successfully complete the one day seminar and final project
