Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Running a Successful Project

Overview:

The Running a Successful Project course is designed for those who are, or who have been, involved in a project and who require the key techniques and process to run a successful project.  This course is intended to complement Fundamentals of Project Management and will enhance those topics and build awareness of the applications and leadership plans specifically applicable to your project team.

You may use the knowledge and skills developed through this course to successfully manage projects, such as:

  • Executives, managers and supervisors;
  • Organization strategists and planners;
  • Project managers and team leaders;
  • Entrepreneurs and small business owners; and 
  • Anyone looking to improve their project management skill set.

What you'll learn:

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Understand advanced concepts in project management, risk management, estimation, people management, collaborative communication, stakeholder management and budgeting;
  • Develop an enhanced awareness of managing projects through discussions of existing projects or case studies;
  • Apply techniques for getting PMP certified; and
  • Compare PMI-based project management to other versions, e.g. Prince2.

It is strongly recommended that you complete Fundamentals of Project Management before taking this course. 

There are no specific admission requirements for this course, however, this course is designed and facilitated with the assumption that participants have previously completed Fundamentals of Project Management and/or have equivalent knowledge and experience.

Online meeting times

This program has online meeting times. This means you must attend the virtual class at the specified date and time (see the Schedule tab).

Google Meet or Kaltura Virtual Classroom (through Catalog) will be used for online delivery of this program to support interaction and engagement.

This course may include, but is not limited to:

  • Content presentations and/or videos;
  • Hands-on exercises;
  • Case discussions and simulations;
  • Group and individual work (assignments/quizzes);
  • Concept and topic discussions; and
  • Topic reflections.
