Arrival, gown pickup and dress code

Graduates are asked to arrive 90 minutes prior to their convocation ceremony to pick up their academic dress (caps, hoods and gowns) from the gowning area. There will be volunteers and signage at the Tribute Communities Centre (TCC) directing graduates to the gowning area. Guests will not be permitted in the gowning area. Graduates are asked to remain in the student gowning area once they are robed.

Important reminder: You must bring your student ID card or government-issued photo ID with you. You will need to present your ID to receive your convocation line-up card and to obtain your degree parchment.

Outside food and beverages are not permitted in the building. Water coolers will be provided throughout the TCC, including the student gowning area.

Volunteers will help graduates put on their gowns. Graduates will carry the hoods over their arms until they are hooded at the side of the stage during the ceremony. The graduation caps may be kept as a class of 2020 memento.

Graduates will not receive their degree parchments on stage. The degree parchments will be given to graduates when they return their gowns and hoods after their ceremony.

While there is no official dress code, comfortable, professional attire under the gown is recommended. Graduates might be standing for some time while waiting for the procession; we suggest you wear comfortable shoes.

Flowers, purses and other articles may not be carried in the procession. If you have any of these items, please leave them with your guests. While supervision of the gowning area will be provided, the university does not accept responsibility for articles lost, stolen or removed in error.
