Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Update 8: January 13, 2021

Yesterday the Premier declared a second state of emergency in response to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario with measures that will come into effect on January 14.

Update 7: December 22, 2020

As of December 26 at 12:01 a.m., all of Ontario will enter a Provincewide Shutdown as announced December 21 by Premier Doug Ford. As a result, additional operational and safety considerations will need to be implemented by the Ontario Tech research community. In consultation with the On-Campus Research Task Force and the University Operations Task Force, the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation is providing the following update and guidance to help you navigate the changing requirements.

Update 5: August 11, 2020

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Return to On-Campus Research Task Force has been working collaboratively to advise on processes to facilitate the staggered and phased-in expansion of research activities on campus. At this time, Research Activities that fall under Stage 3 will be reviewed and considered in the On-Campus Research Framework.

Update 4: July 13, 2020

Update 3: July 7, 2020

Update 2: June 26, 2020 

The university is working through stages to re-open research on campus. As of June 26, 2020 we are entering into Stage 2 of Recovery. An Expansion of On-Campus Research Framework has now been established; the approval process and forms for researchers to apply to return to on-campus research are now available.
