Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Study spaces

All study spaces are closed until further notice. Ontario Tech University continues to limit access to buildings and facilities.

FAQ

  • What hours are the study spaces open?
    All study spaces are closed until further notice due to the provincial emergency and stay-at-home order announced on April 7. Ontario Tech University will continue to limit access to buildings and facilities to those attending previously approved in-person classes, labs and exams, and on-campus essential services.
  • Can I move the furniture around in the designated study areas?

    Please do not move the furniture from its current placement. It’s been strategically placed to meet physical distancing protocols.

  • What other protocols should I follow?
    • Masks may only be removed while eating or drinking.
    • If applicable, eating time should be limited to 30 minutes.
    • Always maintain physical distancing of at least two metres from others.
    • Practice personal hygiene at all times.
    • Table/chair surfaces must be wiped before and after each use. Individuals are responsible for wiping down surfaces with the wipes provided. Do not assume this has been done. Wipe the top of the chair as a high touch point. 
    • Do not access this area with a small group from your work or study space, sit closely together or move chairs to have conversations while eating or drinking.

    These spaces will be monitored for compliance to protocols.
