Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

  • Manufacturing and Production Processes (MANE 3190U)
    Principles and physical phenomena of the basic manufacturing processes. Material behaviour during manufacturing. Topics include: casting process; bulk deformation process including forging, rolling, extrusion and drawing; sheet metal working; joining processes; basics of material removal processes and material alteration processes; process selection.
  • Mechanical Vibrations (MECE 3210U)
    Fundamental concepts of vibrations of mechanical systems; free vibrations of single degree of freedom systems; various types of damping and vibration absorption; forced vibrations; vibration measuring instruments; steady state and transient vibrations; vibrations of multi-degree of freedom systems; vibration isolation; modal analysis; vibrations of continuous systems; introduction to non-linear vibrations, including non-linear springs and non-linear damping.
  • Dynamics (MECE 2430U)
    This course provides fundamental engineering knowledge of time-varying systems. It also examines the kinematics and kinetics of particles and rigid bodies. Course topics include: kinematics of particles; rectilinear and curvilinear motions; Cartesian, normal-tangential, polar and cylindrical components of velocity and acceleration in two and three dimensions; planar kinematics of rigid bodies; general plane motion; rotating frames; kinetics of particles; kinetics of systems of particles; planar kinetics of rigid bodies; force and acceleration; friction; work and energy; conservative and non-conservative systems; impulse and momentum; introduction to three-dimensional kinematics of a rigid body.
  • Strength of Materials (ENGR 3380U)
    Principles of statics as applied to deformable solid bodies; stress and strain; Hooke’s law, elastic behaviour of simple members under axial force, tension, compression, shear, torsion; bending and deftion of beams; design of beams, trusses, frames and shafts; column loads and buckling; impact loading; stability of structures.
  • Mechanics and Dynamics of Machine Tools (graduate course) (ENGR 5243G)
    This course covers the advanced mechanics and dynamics of machine tools, including applications to automotive machining processes. The course includes advanced topics in the theory of metal removal, mechanics of chip formation, forces, statics and dynamics of machine tool structures. Self-excited vibration (chatter), sensor-assisted machining and high-speed machining of materials will also be covered.
