Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

I had several talks to the IEEE sections in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto and was an invited speaker to many IEEE top-tier conferences in Canada and worldwide. I was also a honorary speaker for the HBC (Hydrogen business council) for numerous times.
Services
Since July 2013, I have continued my academic services inside and outside UOIT and I have been actively involved in a number of committees as listed below:

Since joining UOIT, I committed myself to participate in administrative tasks and to serve the academic community inside and outside UOIT. Presently I am participating in two major committees at UOIT: the University Pension and Benefits Committee, the Faculty Association Governance Committee, the Power Stream Leader of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. I also served as the interim chair of the IEEE student chapter at UOIT in 2017. Participation in these committees has given me the chance to develop and significantly improve my administrative skills by working very closely with senior professors at UOIT and learning from their experience. These skills will be of great asset in the future for me to take on bigger administrative responsibilities inside or outside the Department. Outside UOIT; I launched the IEEE Industrial Electronics Chapter under the Toronto section in 2015 and serve as its vice chair since then (http://toronto.ieee.ca/industrial-electronics/).
