For her exceptional leadership in Canadian business, innovation and philanthropy, and her demonstrated commitment to community service, the university proudly confers upon Ms. Arlene Dickinson the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws.  

Ms. Dickinson is a renowned entrepreneur who has made a significant impact on Canada's business landscape. She is the Founder and General Partner of District Ventures Capital, a venture capital fund dedicated to supporting the food and beverage industry, as well as the health and wellness sectors.  

Beyond her entrepreneurial ventures, she is widely recognized for her role on the hit television program Dragons’ Den. As the longest-serving female Dragon, she spent 15 seasons mentoring numerous entrepreneurs and helping grow Canadian businesses.

Ms. Dickinson is also deeply committed to supporting education and community development. Through Venturepark Labs, a non-profit organization she champions, she helps early-stage entrepreneurs turn their ideas into thriving businesses.

A three-time best-selling author and sought-after public speaker, she shares her expertise to inspire and empower future leaders. Her philanthropic efforts include advocating for food security through her involvement with Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue charity, which redistributes surplus food to communities in need.

Her outstanding achievements have earned her many prestigious awards, including induction into Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 Hall of Fame, recognition as one of Chatelaine’s Top 100 Women Business Owners, and membership in the Marketing Hall of Legends. She has also received multiple honorary degrees, the Pinnacle Award for Excellence, and both the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond and Platinum Jubilee Awards.
