For their contributions to business, philanthropy and community development in Canada, and their ability to leverage professional success for the public good, the university proudly confers upon Mr. Mark Mulroney and Mrs. Vanessa Mulroney the honorary degrees of Doctor of Laws.
Mr. and Mrs. Mulroney are influential Canadian leaders whose shared commitment to philanthropy, community development and national progress has left a lasting impact. Together, they have championed initiatives that advance education, health care and the arts, while fostering collaboration among the private, public and non-profit sectors. Through their leadership in fundraising, advocacy and strategic partnerships, they have expanded opportunities for diverse communities and driven meaningful social and economic change. Their collective contributions exemplify innovation, service and civic responsibility, reflecting a deep dedication to building a more inclusive and prosperous Canada.
Mr. Mulroney is a seasoned financial executive and the Global Vice Chair at CIBC, where he supports strategic initiatives, and senior-client relationships across the bank. He is a community leader with a career spanning more than two decades, including roles at Goldman Sachs & Co in New York, RBC Capital Markets, and National Bank Financial Markets where he served as Co-Head of Equity Trading and Head of Equity Capital Markets from 2012 to 2018. Prior to joining CIBC in 2025, he spent seven years at Scotiabank in senior leadership roles including Vice Chair and Head of the Financial Institutions and Sponsors Coverage Group, as well as Vice Chair of Global Banking and Markets.
He is a committed community leader, serving on boards such as the BlackNorth Initiative and the Fraser Institute, chairing the advisory board of the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government, co-chairing fundraising for the Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, and serving as member of Ontario Tech’s Tech with a Conscience Campaign Cabinet.
Mrs. Mulroney is an entrepreneur and community advocate. She is the co-founder of Power of Privé (POP), a boutique advisory firm supporting luxury brands across North America. Through POP, she works with global companies on brand strategy, retail positioning, product development and VIP engagement. She began her career in London, holding senior editorial roles at Condé Nast Traveller UK and Tatler, building expertise at the intersection of media, retail and luxury. She has led major fundraising campaigns for Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, the National Ballet of Canada, and the Shoebox Project for Women.
A dedicated mental-health advocate, she supports awareness and fundraising for institutions including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. Her work is informed by personal experience and reflects a commitment to reducing stigma and expanding access to care by demonstrating leadership and compassion, and creating a lasting impact in both philanthropy and community engagement.
Mr. Mulroney holds an undergraduate degree from Duke University. Mrs. Mulroney studied at École Hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland where she was born and raised, and is fluent in six languages.
They reside together in Toronto and are proud parents to their six children, Joane (26), Maximilian (15), Dylan (14), Ronan (13), Mila (10) and Axel (6).
