Nitin JainIn recognition of his leadership and contributions to Canada’s health and senior living sectors, enhancing the lives of thousands through a philosophy rooted in humility and compassion, the university proudly confers upon Mr. Nitin Jain the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws.

Mr. Jain is the President and CEO of Sienna Senior Living, one of Canada’s leading senior living providers. He has led the organization’s focus on fostering purpose and belonging for seniors, while supporting the well-being and growth of team members. Guided by his belief that caring for seniors is both a privilege and an immense responsibility, Sienna serves more than 13,000 seniors, and employs approximately 15,500 staff across 105+ communities in Ontario and Western Canada. Recognized by TIME Magazine as one of Canada’s best companies, Sienna is a trusted partner to governments, health-care organizations and investors nationwide.

Appointed CEO in June 2020 during a critical period for both Sienna and the health-care sector, Mr. Jain led a transformative renewal of the company, reshaping how care and services are delivered. He established a purpose-driven culture centred on happiness, quality and safety in residents’ daily lives. Through the Sienna Ownership and Rewards (SOAR) program, an industry first, team members share in the company’s success. By prioritizing people, he made resident experience and team-member engagement core measures of impact, helping guide Sienna from near collapse to a top-performing company.

Mr. Jain was raised in a multigenerational household in India, deeply influenced by witnessing his father care for his grandfather—an experience that shaped his commitment to serving seniors. His global career across hospitality, finance, and corporate leadership reflects a strong belief that purpose and performance, together, drive sustainable success.

Established in 2021, the Sienna for Seniors Foundation supports impactful, community-driven programs in arts, education and social connections. Under his leadership and support of Ontario Tech University, Sienna has advanced nursing education, championed innovation and supported applied research on healthy aging, enhancing quality of life for seniors, caregivers and team members in senior living communities.

Mr. Jain holds an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and a degree in Hospitality Management from Widener University, with additional studies at the Indian Institute of Hotel Management. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA) and an ICD.D designee, earned through the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Mr. Jain also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for SickKids Hospital.

Throughout his professional and academic journey, his path has not been linear. It has been shaped by determination and support from his wife, Meghna, and their two sons.
