Mr. Nick Eaves

In recognition of his strategic leadership, innovative thinking and commitment to enhancing community engagement through sport, the university proudly confers upon Mr. Nick Eaves, the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws.
Mr. Eaves is a highly respected sports executive and visionary leader in the Canadian entertainment and professional sports industries. He is the Chief Operating Officer at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), overseeing operations, revenue, capital projects and development; he also leads MLSE’s LIVE division, which delivers hundreds of world-class music and entertainment events each year.
Prior to joining MLSE in 2016, Mr. Eaves served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Woodbine Entertainment Group for five years, after holding numerous other senior positions for the last 15 years. He led the transformation of the organization’s business model to drive operational performance across all business lines—commercial, live events, broadcasting, technology, hospitality and retail operations. His expertise in sport management, venue operations and fan experience has influenced industry standards, and advanced Canada’s reputation in global sports business.
A champion of community development, Mr. Eaves has led and supported investments in programs that promote youth sport participation, diversity in athletics, and equitable access to recreation. He advances initiatives that bridge professional sport and grassroots development, ensuring that sport remains a force for positive social change. He promotes inclusive hiring practices, embraces multicultural representation in sport and supports initiatives that ensure all Canadians have pathways to participate in athletics, and live events. His strong ties to Durham Region and the surrounding areas have strengthened local economic and cultural life, and his influence in Canadian sport extends nationwide, contributing to our country’s standing as a host nation for major sporting events and leagues.
Mr. Eaves serves on the boards of Live Nation Ontario Concerts LP, Maple Leaf Square Holdings and Lakeshore Arena Corporation. He is also a Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto, Co-chair of the Scarborough Health Network Campaign Cabinet, and a member of the United Way Inclusive Local Economic Opportunity Leadership Table. As an active and engaged community leader, he has volunteered with the Out of the Cold program, Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter and Youth Without Shelter.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Western University.
