Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Industry student engagement

industry partners for work-integrated learning opportunities

Ontario Tech University has a long history of offering experiential and work-integrated learning to its students. These activities enrich student learning while preparing them for their future careers. For the organizations who hire them, it is a valuable and effective way to access the fresh thinking, skills and capabilities that students offer while also building a network of future employees.

Not only do our students gain comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in nuclear science and technology through our specialized undergraduate programs, but through our commitment to experiential learning opportunities, including co-op placements and internships, students are enabled to apply their skills in real-world settings. This collaboration between students and faculty fosters groundbreaking research initiatives, addressing key challenges faced by the nuclear industry.

Furthermore, Ontario Tech's strong partnerships with industry leaders provide students with valuable networking opportunities and access to cutting-edge technologies, ensuring they graduate with the skills and expertise sought after by the nuclear sector. Thus, Ontario Tech serves as a pivotal hub for nurturing the next generation of nuclear talent and driving innovation in the industry.

Industry training

Many of our undergraduate and graduate programs are tailored specifically to individual companies, such as the Ontario Power Generation Advanced Operations Overview for Managers (AOOM) program, designed to broaden the station operations and systems knowledge of managers who have not held positions in operations. More than 200 students have graduated from the AOOM program since its creation in 2007. Similar programs are offered to other nuclear industry organizations, tailored specifically to their workforce needs.

In partnership with the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries, Ontario Tech offers a course to industry professionals in small modular reactor design and engineering.

Through a longstanding partnership with the University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE), Ontario Tech professors contribute their expertise as instructors in the UNENE Master's in Nuclear Engineering program and UNENE Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Engineering.

Our university is home to the IAEA Collaborating Centre in Canada. Through the IAEA CC, Ontario Tech hosts the Canadian IAEA Nuclear Energy Management School with its partners, CANDU Owners Group (COG) and UNENE. The NEM program provides engineers with advanced skills to keep them at the forefront of their profession as well as leadership training and a portal to global industry knowledge. Our expert educators also contribute to other forums globally including through COG and the World Nuclear Association.

Ontario Tech supports certificate programs such as the Nuclear Professional development Centre – CANDU Decommissioning certificate and Nuclear-Research Hybrid Energy Systems certificate.

Ontario Tech TALENT, a subsidiary of Ontario Tech University, is geared to meet industry-specific training and education needs. It offers bold new approaches for learners to remain job-ready through lifelong learning.
