Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Engagement Opportunities

We welcome feedback from the community and there will be lots of opportunity to learn more and get involved. As planning progresses, we will continue to share more information through various activities.  Below is a list of planned engagements and please check back regularly to see the latest events.

  • January 30, 2024, 2-3:15pm: CNL & WiE Co-Op Panel and Tour. Location: Software and Informatics Research (SIRC), Room 1350 and TOUR IN ERC -  Nuclear Facility Complex.  This event is open to Ontario Tech students and employees only. Register with Madeline Sialtsis, Women in Engineering & Outreach Coordinator, FEAS.
  • March 23, 1pm-4pm, 2024: Experience Days at Ontario Tech Location: Ontario Tech University, North Oshawa Campus.  Register for the event to learn more. Look for the Nuclear Engineering / Health Physics & Radiation Science table.

    • June 24, Saturday, 2023, 9:30am-10:30am: Ontario Tech Alumni Day hosted by the Ontario Tech Alumni Association.  Location 1st Floor Shawenjigewining Hall:  Look for the Subcritical Assembly Project table.  Tour available while space lasts.
