What is the DS workforce initiative
The Developmental Services Workforce Initiative (DSWI) is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and Ontario’s developmental services sector to strengthen and sustain a skilled, responsive workforce. The initiative is focused on building a comprehensive workforce strategy that ensures people with developmental disabilities and their families have access to high-quality, person-directed supports.
At its core, the DSWI is designed to increase the number of qualified developmental services professionals who can deliver meaningful, outcomes-focused support. It brings a coordinated approach to education, training, and professional development, helping to align pathways across colleges, universities, and sector organizations. By doing so, the initiative not only strengthens workforce capacity but also creates clearer, more diverse career pathways that attract and retain talent within the sector.
Vision of the DS Workforce Initiative “In alignment with DS Reform work, we build a diverse workforce that is stable and responsive with skills to deliver person-directed and quality supports for people with developmental disabilities in Ontario.”
