Healthcare Providers CPR Certification/Recertification
Overview
Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR for healthcare professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of in-facility and pre-hospital settings, as well as students training in the healthcare field. This combined course offering is for individuals that have never completed the Healthcare Provider CPR certification or who are looking to recertify. Successful participants will receive their certificates on the same day! The HCP CPR is equivalent to Basic Life Support (BLS).
- All Ontario Tech Nursing students MUST have CPR for Healthcare Professionals (HCP) before being cleared for placements.
- Ontario Tech Nursing students MUST renew their CPR for Healthcare Professionals (HCP) certification annually.

Who should attend?
CPR Certification/Recertification is for Healthcare Providers as a combined offering for those individuals who require Certification prior to practicum or for those who require Recertification
A valid CPR for Healthcare Providers certification is required for all Nursing students before they are cleared to go on placement. CPR for HCP certification is valid for 1-year only and must be recertified prior to placement. Students and participants who obtained their CPR certification with another company can recertify on campus through Continuous Learning.
What you'll learn
- Learn to manage an emergency medical situation using the Lifesaver 101 Rules of 123 & ABC
- Discuss the reasons First Aiders may be hesitant to administer CPR, such as personal safety, legalities and lack of training Recognize and treat shock
- Recognize and treat heart attack and stroke
- Use the Lifesaver 101™ Survival Links to manage a cardiac emergency
- Administer adult, child and infant CPR
- Recognize and treat conscious/unconscious choking for adults, children and infants
- Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on adults, children and infants
CPR and AED Team rescue - Recognize and treat conscious/unconscious choking for adults, children, and infants

Registration
You can register for this course through the secure online registration form. All course fees must be paid at the time of registration.
Cancellations
General Cancellations
Students can cancel their registration up until one (1) business day before the course start date. Students must provide written notice to ContinuousLearning@ontariotechu.ca to withdraw. A full refund will be issued.
If a student does not attend their scheduled session without notice it will be considered a no-show and the student will not be eligible for a refund.
General Changes
If a student registers for the wrong section (i.e. re-certification or certification) the student may transfer into the correct section at no cost. Written notice of this request must be made to.
Students registered in a course but experienced a time conflict will be given the following options:
- transfer to an alternate open section of the same class, where available;
- receive a full refund less an administrative fee of $10
