Overview

Continuous Learning is pleased to introduce the Nuclear Project Management Micro-credential Program, consisting of three micro-credential courses designed to build practical project management capability for the nuclear industry. The Program supports professionals working in, or preparing to enter, nuclear environments who are involved in project coordination, engineering, operations, or technical leadership roles.

Together, the three micro-credentials provide a practical, industry-aligned pathway that helps participants build confidence to support planning, leading, and delivering nuclear projects safely and effectively.

Note: The Nuclear Project Management Fundamentals course (part of the Nuclear Career Accelerator Program) is considered equivalent to the Nuclear Project Management 1 micro-credential. Learners who have successfully completed the Nuclear Project Management Fundamentals course may apply this badge to the Nuclear Project Management Micro-credential Program as completion of Nuclear Project Management 1.

The time commitment to complete this program is approximately 36 hours (12 hours for each of the three (3) micro-credential courses).

This program is eligible for OSAP for Micro-credentials.

Who should attend?

This program is ideal for professionals who are currently working in, or looking to transition into, the nuclear sector. It is particularly suited for individuals involved in project coordination, project management, engineering, operations, or technical roles who want to strengthen their project management skills within a nuclear context.

There are no formal prerequisites for this program. A general understanding of project management concepts is helpful but not required.

It is recommended that participants have:
  • some professional experience in a technical, engineering, or project-focused role, or
  • an interest in pursuing work in the nuclear industry.

What you'll learn

Participants will be introduced to core methodologies and skills used in the planning, and monitoring of nuclear projects. Project management techniques include developing work breakdown structure, critical path method, earned value methods, risk register, and change control. Through relevant nuclear case studies, learners will analyze project management lessons learned, such as project delays, cost overruns, and best practice. Learners will explore strategies to deliver nuclear projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Micro-credentials

  • Nuclear Project Management 1

Note: The Nuclear Project Management Fundamentals course (part of the Nuclear Career Accelerator Program) is considered equivalent to the Nuclear Project Management 1 micro-credential. Learners who have successfully completed the Nuclear Project Management Fundamentals course may apply this badge to the Nuclear Project Management Micro-credential Program as completion of Nuclear Project Management 1.

    Description

This micro-credential introduces the protocols, concepts, and work methods required to execute tasks in a nuclear power environment. Learners will examine key topics including Nuclear Safety Culture, Radiation Protection (RP) Fundamentals, Security and Site Access, Regulatory and Legal Compliance, and Industrial Safety Awareness. The course culminates in a scenario-based assessment where learners will apply their knowledge to the requirements for planning and executing project work during both outage and innage conditions.

This micro-credential is supported by a facilitator who is available to answer learner inquiries and provide feedback on assessments.

    What you'll learn

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will:

    • demonstrate an understanding of the foundational knowledge and regulatory awareness required to safely and effectively support work within a nuclear facility during innage and outage conditions;
    • demonstrate competency in nuclear safety culture principles, regulatory and radiation protection requirements, industrial and environmental safety practices, and emergency response expectations; and
    • develop the skills necessary to complete a stakeholder communication strategy and high-level execution plan for a hypothetical nuclear maintenance project.

The estimated completion time for this micro-credential is 12 hours.

  • Nuclear Project Management 2
    Description

This micro-credential equips learners with the nuclear project management techniques, systems, and leadership skills required to manage complex, safety-critical, and highly regulated projects. Participants will learn to master core methodologies, including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Critical Path Method (CPM), and Earned Value Management (EVM), critical areas such as risk register development, change control, and resource optimization. Emphasis is placed on integrating engineering rigor with management discipline to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of nuclear projects. Through applied data-driven exercises, participants will gain the skills to plan, monitor, and report on project performance.

This micro-credential is supported by a facilitator who is available to answer learner inquiries and provide feedback on assessments.

    What you'll learn

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will:

    • develop project management skills to create project plan baselines that define scope, dependencies, and critical paths using industry-standard methodologies; and
    • develop the skills necessary to manage project management systems, including configuration, documentation, and dashboards, to evaluate performance and ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project delivery.

The estimated completion time for this micro-credential is 12 hours.

  • Nuclear Project Management 3
    Description

This micro-credential explores four case studies that build upon project management concepts introduced in Nuclear Project Management 1 and Nuclear Project Management 2, drawing on examples from both Canadian and international contexts. Through expert-led interviews, learners deepen their understanding of Canada’s nuclear history and apply key principles of nuclear project management. The course examines nuclear plant modifications at Canadian generating stations to analyze strengths and weaknesses, identify critical paths, and develop lessons learned. Participants also explore project management approaches used in Canadian nuclear plant construction along with those employed in China and other countries. In addition, the influence of culture on project management practices is examined. The course further investigates why nuclear projects often experience delays and cost overruns compared to other infrastructure projects and analyzes strategies to improve schedule and budget performance. The course concludes with a summative assessment that draws on the case studies explored throughout the course.

This micro-credential is supported by a facilitator who is available to answer learner inquiries and provide feedback on assessments.

    What you'll learn

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will:

    • demonstrate competency in nuclear project management by analyzing Canadian and international nuclear case studies to identify critical paths, assess project impacts, and develop culture-informed lessons learned.

The estimated completion time for this micro-credential is 12 hours.
