Academic dress
The university’s Academic Council designates the academic dress for all ceremonial functions. The attire symbolizes a graduate's achievement in attaining a degree and joining our alumni community.

Special considerations
-
Indigenous graduates
We honour the traditions and cultures of Indigenous communities. First Nations, Métis, and Inuit graduates have several options for their convocation attire:
- Wear traditional Indigenous regalia in place of the academic gown.
- Wear the academic gown and hood over traditional Indigenous regalia.
- Wear only the academic hood with traditional Indigenous regalia.
The academic hood, which signifies your academic achievement, should be worn regardless of your attire choice.
-
Prohibited items
Prohibited items include country flags, sports team fan items, and student group buttons or items affixed to the regalia. Read more about prohibited items and safety guidelines on the Safeguarding and assurance web page.
