Behavioral Interventions in Mental Health
Overview
Most people understand the word “behaviour” to mean or refer to conduct, but behaviour is any observable and measurable act of an individual. It is what a person does to make something happen, to make something change, or to keep things the same. Observing behaviour in a mental health setting can be considered the easy part. It is understanding WHY someone does what they do that can be much more complex to tease apart. Behaviour serves a purpose and has a reason for occurring. In this microcredential, the learner will use principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to document accurate and objective data based on various scenarios. This includes analyzing why certain behaviours occur, finding patterns, and recommending interventions to support patient care.
